The final word (as published)

(If I bring up same-sex marriage again, please remind me that I considered this my final word.)

For many years now, same-sex couples have been free to marry.  There have been a growing number of religious institutions willing to solemnize such unions, and help the participants "learn to love one another as the Bible teaches," as letter writer Ron Lowe has said.

However, Lowe also said that the Supreme Court's recent Prop 8 decision validating same-sex marriage "will thrill millions who love each other."  There we have two exaggerations.  First, only about 5% of the population professes to be gay, and, more importantly, the U.S. government isn't into love.  Its only concerns are money and control.

Many years ago, our government of the people started electing some of the wrong ones of us.  Apparently, the majority of them were married, and they decided to cut themselves some government perks.  Now, we are compounding that error by adding a whole new group of those who can divorce, and otherwise use the government to gain an advantage over others.
